Is feminism reaching extremism? Do feminists hate men?
Everyone is so concerned about a woman’s perception towards the opposite gender these days since many individuals are into reforming the existing laws that is many-a-times misinterpreted as making of a female-dominated society. The moment we hear any news about physical assault, the news feed gets flooded with men and women bashing each other, neglecting the hard-core facts. Yes, it is true that incidents like rape still occur and don’t seem to decline for now; but one cannot entirely ignore the fact that there are particular sects of women who are never guilty of falsely accusing somebody, giving nonsensical reasons if caught with evidence.
The term “feminism” is an ideology of asking for equality in terms of personal, economic and social status. This is indeed a welcome move and quite legitimate if we see through the whole history of mankind that how the condition of women worsened since centuries. Women were the ones who weren’t (and still aren’t in many countries) given the most basic rights to get educated, work for earning wages, and even cast their vote (forget about being the electoral candidates themselves), just because they were women. When I say that it is the movement to bring equality among women (of all sects ethnicity, religious background, financial status and country) along with men, I actually mean to convey egalitarianism in literal sense.
When we talk about giving equal rights to everyone it actually implies to not disregard the other party. If someone asks for seeking freedom in every sense it certainly isn’t about abolishing another’s rights. Ever thought why would a woman falsely accuse a man for raping her or asking her for dowry, despite of the accusations being totally misleading?
“Politically, I call it rape whenever a woman has sex and feels violated.” – Catherine MacKinnon
“I believe that women have a capacity for understanding and compassion which man structurally does not have, does not have it because he cannot have it. He’s just incapable of it.” – Barbara Jordan, former Congresswoman
“As long as some men use physical force to subjugate females, all men need not. The knowledge that some men do suffices to threaten all women. He can beat or kill the woman he claims to love; he can rape women…he can sexually molest his daughters… THE VAST MAJORITY OF MEN IN THE WORLD DO ONE OR MORE OF THE ABOVE.” – Marilyn French
The laws were made to protect women so that they ‘know’ that the society is with them and they are always supported, no matter how much the situation goes against them. The laws were formed so that a woman stands against all odds, speaks up for herself, sets an example and becomes an idol for all other women who just dream of getting liberated. But this does not mean that they take advantage of such laws and throw everyone behind the bars simply because their ego wasn’t satisfied. There are thousands of pending cases in which just a few arguments of a man with his wife leads to reaching behind the bars, and it is not just for him, but for the whole family, including those family members who even don’t reside at the same city/state/country. Is it a vengeance because things weren’t going in your favor?
Those who are fighting for women’s rights do not contain just women but male candidates as well (ever heard of male feminists?). The ideology of feminism has been most of the times misinterpreted by ‘some’ women which is why they reach extremism; and yes, they are more into being a misandrist than a feminist. I still remember the statement told by one of my friends (a girl) – “My family is against girls. The moment they recognize that the unborn child is a girl they simply abort it, particularly when women in my family get pregnant for the second time. I would do the same to my fetus if it is a boy!”. Was it a rage? Everyone shapes-up his overall persona based on their genes plus the kind of environment (s) he has his/her bringing up and others’ treatment towards this particular individual. Hating men because your family loved them isn’t a sane and mature response but a childlike mannerism, and is unwelcome everywhere. In this kind of mindset, one is no different than another.
If a man tells you that you don’t look good in a certain outfit then don’t drag the whole chapter of he-is-supposed-to-like-the-real-me attitude, regardless of your own stance on fat guys. The logic is simple, if you expect good behavior you need to monitor your own demeanor as well. May be the person doesn’t criticize you that often when your outfits are concerned but, believes that he should give you his honest opinion at times.
The real fact is, a feminist in the true sense will never support inequality, even if it is against a man, or even a homosexual or transgender. If, as a male, you generalize every woman being the “Feminazi” retard isn’t sane of you either; if you think that being a feminist is against you and plainly sexist (just like you do when a rape case emerges and you swiftly conclude that it must be the false charge). One must understand the real difference between the two, and the world will be the better place to live in.
